This Is Our Story
The Motivation
Our birds are the center of our world. A lot of our time is spent to ensure we provide them the best that we can. Other than a healthy diet, we understand that it's just as important to keep them engaged to ensure they are both physically and mentally healthy.
Over the years, we've bought all kinds of enrichment toys, puzzles, foraging 'gadgets' to encourage play. We've found what works, what kinda works and what doesn't. In our experience, we've found that many of the mass produced toys doesn't always suit our flock. They would play with it for a bit and then it's absolutely invisible to them.
So, we decided to take our experience with our flock and we went to the drawing board. The main motivation behind it all came from this one question 'How can we encourage our flock to play a toy a day?'. What we really mean by that is, how do we get them so engaged that they would chew up the whole toy today and expect us humans to provide a new one tomorrow. We put what we know works and hand crafted toys that we know will keep our feathered friends happy. To be honest, this was made possible thanks to Mango the flock leader. Mango is our Pineapple Green Cheeked Conure. He has lots to say about how he influenced us to make him the toys that he loves and now he wants to share it with all.
Mango
Hello, feathered friends and curious humans! It's me, your chirpy companion, Mango, ready to share a tale of beak-powered persuasion. You see, us birds have a knack for influencing our humans in the most 'delightful' ways. Today, I want to chirp about how I convinced my human to create some natural toys for me.
It all began with a simple observation. As a bird with an insatiable curiosity, I quickly grew tired of the usual store-bought toys. Plastic and synthetic materials just didn't cut it for me anymore. I longed for something more in tune with nature, something that would ignite my senses and engage my mind.
So, I started dropping subtle hints. Whenever my human brought home a branch, I'd perch on it endlessly. When they brought home berries, I'd chirp with delight. I made sure to show extra enthusiasm whenever we went on outdoor adventures, particularly when we stumbled upon branches, flowers, or berries. My human couldn't help but notice my excitement.
One day, after witnessing my uncontainable joy at finding a fallen branch during one of our walks, something clicked in my human's mind. They realized that perhaps the key to keeping me happy and stimulated lay in the natural world around us.
And thus, the crafting began. Armed with a newfound determination to cater to my avian desires, my human set out to create a treasure trove of natural toys. They gathered branches of different shapes and sizes, sanitized them thoroughly, and transformed them into perches, swings, and chewable delights. They threaded chewy wooden delights onto sturdy twines, creating hanging toys. They even fashioned foraging toys out of sisal rope that would challenge me to figure out how to get to the treat inside.
The transformation was remarkable. No longer was my cage filled with lifeless trinkets; it was now a vibrant playground teeming with the wonders of the natural outdoors. Each toy sparked a sense of adventure within me, encouraging me to explore, play, and embrace my wild instincts.
But the best part? Watching my human's face light up with joy as they witnessed the fruits of their labor. They had discovered the joy of creating something special for their feathered friend, and our bond grew stronger with each new creation.
Chirping off,
Mango
