Thin slices of balsa, 8 mm thick and about the size of a playing card. Where a block gets gnawed, a card gets split, snapped and shredded, which suits birds who like to break something down rather than wear it away.
Tuck one through the bars beside a perch, stack a few into a toy that has lost its soft parts, or hand them over singly. Balsa is soft enough for a budgie's first bite and gone in a session for a conure. Sold in fives and tens because that is how fast they go.
